Most locksmiths are generalists, and a fair number of them mainly do car keys. We are neither. LRM uPVC has spent over 15 years working on uPVC, composite and aluminium doors and windows, which is what the overwhelming majority of homes around here actually have.
That matters more than it sounds. A multipoint mechanism, a euro cylinder and an espagnolette window lock all fail in specific ways, and knowing them is the difference between a twenty minute fix and a door that gets drilled out unnecessarily. We turn up with the right parts already on the van.
Whether you are standing outside your own front door, moving into a new house, or have been broken into, call us and we will tell you what it needs and what it costs before we start.
Lock problems do not keep office hours. A key snapped in the barrel on a Sunday night, a door that has seized shut with the kids inside, a front door that will not lock after a break-in. Our emergency locksmith service runs around the clock precisely because those are the calls that cannot wait until Monday.
We open non-destructively wherever the lock allows it, which is most of the time. Drilling a cylinder is a last resort, not an opening move, and where a lock does have to be sacrificed to get you in, we tell you before we touch it and replace it as part of the job. You will not find a bill afterwards for something you were not warned about.
From a single stuck key to a full security upgrade, these are the jobs we are called out for most across Widnes and Runcorn.
Locked out of your own home, or keys lost somewhere between here and town. We get you back in, and where the keys are genuinely lost we can change the lock at the same visit.
New house, a set of keys you cannot account for, or a tenant moving on. Changing the cylinder is quick and inexpensive, and it is the only way to know who does not have a key any more.
Multipoint mechanisms, euro cylinders, handles and keeps. The locking gear on a uPVC or composite door is our core trade rather than a sideline.
Window locks, handles and espagnolette mechanisms that no longer throw or catch. Often overlooked, and an easy way into a house if left broken.
Anti-snap cylinders and British Standard locks fitted to meet insurance requirements. We will tell you plainly whether yours is a weak point or perfectly adequate.
Doors and locks damaged in a break-in, made secure straight away and repaired properly afterwards. We can provide what your insurer needs for the claim.
Locksmith pricing has a bad reputation, and most of it is deserved. The national call-centre outfits quote a low figure on the phone, send whoever is nearest, and the number doubles once someone is standing on your step at eleven at night.
We do not work that way. There is no call-out fee and estimates are free, so a diagnosis costs you nothing. You get the price before any work starts, and that is the price you pay. Nothing gets added at the end.
What you actually pay depends on the job. Opening a door non-destructively is the cheapest thing we do. Changing a euro cylinder adds the cost of the cylinder, and an anti-snap unit costs more than a standard one because the part does. A full multipoint mechanism is the largest of the common jobs, and even that is a fraction of a new door.
If you want a figure before we come out, describe the problem in the form below and we will give you a realistic range rather than a number designed to get us through the door.
Changing a lock is one of the most common calls we take, and it is rarely about something being broken.
People change locks when they move into a house and have no idea how many keys are out there, when a relationship ends, when a set of keys goes missing, or when a letting agent hands over a property. In every one of those cases the lock works perfectly well. What has changed is who might have a key.
On a uPVC or composite door this usually means swapping the euro cylinder rather than the whole mechanism, which is quick and one of the cheaper jobs on this page. It is also the right moment to upgrade to an anti-snap cylinder if your current one is a standard unit sticking out past the handle.
If the lock is failing rather than simply needing a new key, that is a repair rather than a replacement, and it is usually cheaper. We will tell you which one you are looking at before we start.
Most home insurance policies specify a minimum lock standard, and a surprising number of houses do not meet it. On timber doors that usually means a British Standard mortice deadlock. On uPVC and composite doors it is the cylinder that matters.
The weak point on a uPVC door is almost always a standard euro cylinder that protrudes past the handle. It can be snapped in seconds using a method that is well known and requires no skill. An anti-snap cylinder is built to break off in a controlled section and leave the locking mechanism intact, and fitting one is a small job with a disproportionate benefit.
We will look at what you have and tell you honestly whether it needs upgrading. If your locks are already fine, we will say so.
We are based locally and work across Widnes and Runcorn, along with Warrington, Frodsham and the villages in between. If you are near the edge of that and not sure whether we reach you, just ask.
Calling a locksmith means letting a stranger work on the thing that keeps your family safe. Here is why people around here call us rather than a number they found in a panic.
No call-out fee, free estimates: a diagnosis costs you nothing, and the price you are quoted is the price you pay.
Non-destructive entry first: drilling is a last resort. Most doors we are called to open without any damage at all.
uPVC specialists: 15 years on uPVC, composite and aluminium doors and windows, which is what most homes here have.
Genuinely local: minutes away rather than a national call centre dispatching whoever is closest.
Repair before replace: if your lock can be fixed rather than replaced, we will tell you, even though the replacement pays us more.
200+ five-star reviews: a track record you can check before you pick up the phone.
Don’t just take our word for it; here are just some of the customer reviews!
Flawless service, after calling a lot of companies who didn’t want my business, LRM came same day and did an amazing job. Credit to them, very highly recommend to anyone and I will share the news with anyone I can. 100% superstar !!! Cheers!

I’m someone who is sceptical when I see a blanket 5 * rating. If you’re like me I can say there’s no need to be concerned. 5* justified. Appointment time keeping excellent. Had a back door that wouldn’t open. A visit from Liam and it now opens and locks better than it ever has before. Strongly recommended.

No. There is no call-out fee and estimates are free, so having us come and look costs you nothing. You get the price before any work starts and it does not change afterwards.
It depends entirely on the job. Opening a door without damage is the cheapest thing we do. Changing a euro cylinder adds the cost of the cylinder itself, and a full multipoint mechanism is the largest of the common jobs. Describe the problem and we will give you a realistic figure before we set off.
Yes. Our emergency locksmith service runs 24 hours a day, because lockouts and broken locks rarely happen at a convenient time.
Not if we can avoid it, and most of the time we can. We open non-destructively wherever the lock allows it. Where a cylinder does have to be sacrificed to gain entry, we tell you before we touch it and replace it as part of the job.
If the keys are genuinely lost rather than mislaid, yes, and we would recommend it. On a uPVC or composite door that usually means swapping the euro cylinder rather than the whole mechanism, which is quick and one of the cheaper jobs we do.
A standard euro cylinder can be snapped in seconds using a method that is widely known and requires no skill, particularly where the cylinder sticks out past the handle. An anti-snap cylinder is built to break off in a controlled section and leave the lock intact. If yours protrudes, it is worth upgrading.
